Texas Nurses Choose Braille Transcription

Nurses looking for a change in career, extra income, or a retirement job they can do from home may want to take a look at the new online Braille Textbook Transcriber Certification program offered at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio.

The school is the first college in the nation to offer a program like this, according to Melanie Marchand, coordinator of the program. The program was developed from a partnership between Northwest Vista, the Texas Education Agency, and the American Foundation for the Blind. The college received a $45,000 grant from AFB to launch the program.

The curriculum for the Braille translation program is the first college-level study of its kind in the nation. Previously, Braille transcription training was done through self-study or learning on the job.
